35 years and a summer with a packed calendar bear witness to Proyecto Uno’s enduring relevance in the music industry. The iconic merengue hip-hop group, founded in New York with Dominican roots, celebrates three and a half decades on the music scene, leaving an indelible mark on the world of Latin music.
The celebration continues after 35 years of history. This summer, the group will get all its fans dancing; one of the concerts that will be part of this celebration will take place in New York City, where their musical journey began. SummerStage in Central Park will be the setting for a concert full of joy and memories, where members Nelson Zapata, Gabriel Torres, and Paolo Tondo will have their audience singing along and enjoying every moment.
Nelson Zapata, founder of Proyecto Uno, explains the magic of how to remain relevant in the industry and in the public’s favor: “It has been quite a challenge to stay active in the music scene. We have refreshed our image in our performances by incorporating a live band and a revamped, modernized stage production. Our songs have become timeless; they continue to be favorites among our longtime fans and young people who have recently discovered our music.”
Throughout the summer of 2024, performances continue in:
June 22 – Cuenca, Ecuador – Serrano Aguilar Stadium
July 6 – Monterrey, Mexico – Estadio Mobil Esplanade
July 19 – New Jersey, USA – The Williams Center in Rutherford
July 21 – New York, USA – NYC Summerstage Central Park
August 3 – Medellín, Colombia – “The Eternal” Flower Fair
August 16 – Chicago, USA – Copernicus Center
December 21 – Los Angeles, USA – Bésame Mucho Festival Dodger Stadium
Likewise, the group had the opportunity to celebrate the 30-year legacy of the newsmagazine program Primer Impacto (Univision), for which they created a special version of the acclaimed song “El tiburón.” At the same time, they thank Telemundo for the invitation to take part in its summer concerts, where they will perform a medley of some of their hits.
Among the most notable performances of 2024 were major concerts in different cities: Carnaval Cozumel (Mexico), Baila Conmigo (Miami), Estéreo Picnic (Bogotá), the Barranquilla Carnival (Colombia), and SeaWorld (Orlando) were some of the venues where they had their audiences dancing and enjoying themselves.
Currently, the group is preparing its new song, which will be packed with rhythms and surprises to delight its audience. All information about their upcoming performances can be found on the website: https://proyectouno.net
